Susan Hansell, GSKWRC’s new CEO, enjoyed being a part of the Council’s 2010 Girl Scouts Award Ceremony during her first week on the job. “Meeting 150 of our Council’s top achievers is an honor for me,” Susan said. “By earning their Gold, Silver or Bronze Award these Girl Scouts have used their leadership skills to make a difference in their communities.”

The Council Awards Ceremony took place on June 6 and included more than 300 Girl Scouts, their family and friends. The event featured keynote speaker Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts Crit Luallen, a Girl Scout alumnae, who described how her Girl Scouting experience helped her build a foundation of skills that she has used to become the state’s most successful auditor. Crit encouraged the girls to take the leadership skills they developed through Girl Scouting to make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others.

Susan Hansell, comes to the council from North Carolina with over 30 years of for and not-for profit experience. Having successfully completed a law degree, she took "the road less traveled" and opened a retail business, operated successfully for 12 years before selling and transitioning into the nonprofit sector.

Susan’s not-for-profit career includes creating and/or leading county-wide, regional, and state-wide organizations. Most recently, she led a program serving minority, economically disadvantaged youth with rigorous academic tutorial support. Susan also taught financial management for nonprofits for five years to graduate students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Susan enjoyed Girl Scouting throughout grade school and junior high. Susan’s parents and extended family still live in Maryland and she is a lifelong Baltimore Orioles fan. Susan took up horseback riding five years ago and has fallen in love with the horses and horse people. When she’s not at the stables, she can be found at the gym, reading a good book, or spending time with friends.
